Using Vintage Wood Crates As Planters

Vintage Wood Soda Crates from BasicBrown

If you have been collecting old crates & looking for a creative way to use them, here is a great idea! Take the crates & use them as planter boxes! Mount & hang several crates (of the same size) in a row (horizontal or vertical) on the exterior of your potting shed, backyard studio, yard fence, or any other spot outdoors. {For a more eclectic look, use crates varying in size.} Just place your favorite plants or flowers in terracotta planters, and set inside of each crate. Varying plant & flower heights will keep the look from being too fussy. The vintage soda crates pictured above are perfect for this project!

Another idea is to set the vintage crates on decorative metal shelving brackets (just like a bookshelf) & use as planters indoors or outdoors. You can mount & hang them side-by-side or vertically. For the shelving brackets, look for vintage ones at the thrift store & garage sales, or buy new & give them a rustic finish. We like these crates to use with shelving brackets:

Vintage crate planters will add the perfect country touch to your outdoor space! And a simple weekend DIY, too. Looking for additional wood crates for this project? Click here to see more old crates on Etsy.
