I just love antique wrought-iron cribs. They are perfect for giving a nursery the farmhouse look.

The First Snow of the Season

{ via Pinterest }

The first snow of the season has officially arrived! It's time to prepare for the season that has us frequently snuggling up by the fireplace, and indulging in all things warm & cozy. I really love the space pictured above; it makes me want to curl up in the chair with the blanket, and sip a cup of hot cocoa, while watching the snowflakes fall.

The holidays are also approaching quickly! Can you believe there are only 44 days left until Christmas?! If you are looking for country-inspired gifts for the people on your list, be sure to stop by SwedeHeart. We like to make gift-giving easy, and are more than happy to ship gifts directly to recipients, with a special gift note & message from you. Just let us know {in the 'Message to Seller' at checkout} the name & shipping address of the recipient, along with the message you would like us to include.

In the meantime, stay warm friends!

Recipe: Easy Refrigerator Pickles

I would like to share with you my favorite recipe for refrigerator pickles. These homemade pickles taste SO much better than the store-bought kind! You can use canning jars or any glass jars & lids that have been thoroughly cleaned. If you can't find pickling cucumbers, you can use English cucumbers instead. Enjoy!

Patina Perfection.

This has to be the most perfect patina we have ever seen! The color is absolutely exquisite, and the details on the door knob & plate are so intricate. Now if only we could have these exact doors in our country home...

Using Vintage Wood Crates As Planters

Vintage Wood Soda Crates from BasicBrown

If you have been collecting old crates & looking for a creative way to use them, here is a great idea! Take the crates & use them as planter boxes! Mount & hang several crates (of the same size) in a row (horizontal or vertical) on the exterior of your potting shed, backyard studio, yard fence, or any other spot outdoors. {For a more eclectic look, use crates varying in size.} Just place your favorite plants or flowers in terracotta planters, and set inside of each crate. Varying plant & flower heights will keep the look from being too fussy. The vintage soda crates pictured above are perfect for this project!

Another idea is to set the vintage crates on decorative metal shelving brackets (just like a bookshelf) & use as planters indoors or outdoors. You can mount & hang them side-by-side or vertically. For the shelving brackets, look for vintage ones at the thrift store & garage sales, or buy new & give them a rustic finish. We like these crates to use with shelving brackets:

Vintage crate planters will add the perfect country touch to your outdoor space! And a simple weekend DIY, too. Looking for additional wood crates for this project? Click here to see more old crates on Etsy.

{DIY} Rustic Wood Pallet Headboard

DIY Wood Pallet Headboard via Stylizimo Blog

Who knew wood pallets could be made into something so chic! Nina, from Stylizimo Blog, came up with this creative way to reuse old wood pallets & turn them into a fantastic headboard. Not only can you typically get old pallets like these for free, but this DIY could easily be done in a weekend! We love the perfectly rustic look of the wood. But you could also paint the pallets, then do a little sanding & scraping to give the paint a time-worn look. Such an affordable DIY project!
